NotesSome of the covers listed here are local post covers, these are covers that have a cachet which consists of a local post "stamp" (label) that has been affixed to the left side of the envelope and cancelled with a "local post cancel" (which is a private cancel used by the local post). Some of the covers listed here are local post covers and these have a printed cachet designed and "imprinted" on the envelope by the local post. Other covers on this list are regular first day covers and commemorative covers for the christmas topical or associated with the Christmas topic. In the text below, the wording: "traditional stamp" refers to the religious Christmas designed stamp issued by the United States Postal Service (USPS), and the "contemporary stamp" wording refers to other Christmas design(s) that are not religious, such as Christmas trees, plants, wreaths, Santa etc, that are on stamp(s) issued by the United States Postal Service (USPS).
