Notes

  • There are various cachets in this listing, including printed cachets, rubber stamp cachets, official NASA cachets, etc.
  • All covers are unaddressed unless otherwise noted.
  • All commemorative covers are for launches unless otherwise noted.
  • Where stamp(s) used on the cover are significant to the event or location, they will be described. Otherwise the stamp(s) used on the cover may be a definitive or an unrelated issue.
  • Some of the covers described below are listed as Viking "A" or Viking "One" etc. These are the same spacecraft! Nasa, in all its wisdom, sometimes designates a spaceflight with a "letter" such as "A" or "B" etc. during the launch phase and after the launch is successful it changes the spaceflight from a "letter" to a "number". Hence the official NASA cachets on these covers for the Viking launches are marked Viking A. Other cachet makers have also followed NASA's lead in some cases. When describing a cachet, I describe it as shown on the cachet. If the cachet does not specifically say Viking A or Viking One, I may describe it as either, since it's all the same flight!

The above also holds true for the Viking "B" and Viking "Two" spacecraft, they are the same. AND NOW YOU KNOW!
