Notes
- All covers on this list are engraved printed cachets by "Orbit Covers".
- The cachets are printed in greenish black, unless otherwise noted.
Skylab Notes:
The Confusion in the Numbering of the Skylab Flights (which I hope to clear up here):
- May 14, 1973 was the launch of the UNMANNED Skylab space station, NASA called this flight "SL-1, SKYLAB ONE", The Skylab Space Station. The NASA mission emblem/patch for this flight shows the Skylab space station but there is NO number associated with this emblem/patch.
- May 25, 1973 was the launch of the FIRST MANNED Skylab flight, NASA called this flight "SL-2, SKYLAB TWO". However the NASA mission emblem/patch for this flight says SKYLAB ONE, (for the FIRST MANNED flight).
- June 28, 1973 was the launch of the SECOND MANNED Skylab flight, NASA called this flight "SL-3, SKYLAB THREE". However the NASA mission emblem/patch for this flight says SKYLAB TWO, (for the SECOND MANNED flight).
- November 16, 1973 was the launch of the THIRD MANNED Skylab flight, NASA called this flight "SL-4, SKYLAB FOUR". However the NASA mission emblem/patch for this flight says SKYLAB THREE, (for the THIRD MANNED flight).
To further the confusion that exists with the NASA numbering system as listed above, some cachetmakers went along with the NASA terminology, calling the unmanned Skylab Space Station as Skylab 1, as well as the first manned Skylab flight as Skylab 1, then continued on with Skylab 2 and 3. Other cachetmakers called the unmanned Skylab Space Station as Skylab 1, and the first manned Skylab flight as Skylab 2, with Skylab 3 and and 4 following. In many cases while the cachet could say Skylab 4 it shows the proper NASA emblem/patch of Skylab 3. Confusing isn't it?
In my descriptions of the Skylab covers below, I will give the Skylab name that is marked on the cover (as supplied by the cachetmaker), however I will also identify the skylab flight in parenthesis such as (The Unmanned Skylab Space Station), (First Manned Flight), (Second Manned Flight) or (Third Manned Flight) which should clear up the confusion.
