  • Commemorative covers of Australia (and other countries) may have dated cancels a day later than the event being commemorated, due to the time difference from where the event occurred, or if the postoffice is closed when the event occured. Covers cancelled as near to the date of the event as possible.
  • Not all of my foreign covers are in these alphabetical lists, or country lists, other covers are included in lists such as: Apollo 13 Flight/Commemorative Covers list, Tracking Station Cover lists, the General Air and Space Covers lists, etc. etc.

  • Foreign covers may be slightly smaller in size than the standard U.S. #6 size and if so, their size will NOT be noted. Any cover larger than a number 6 size will be noted or any item of an unordinary size will be so noted.
  • All covers are unaddressed unless otherwise noted.
  • All covers are cacheted unless otherwise noted. A brief description of the cachet is given of the event being commemorated.
  • If covers are autographed they are genuine, unless otherwise noted.
  • Where stamp(s) used on the item are of significance, such as being a space stamp or a flag stamp or related to the event or location, it will be described. Otherwise the stamp(s) used on the item may be a definitive issue or an unrelated commemorative issue, and will not be described.

Roseau, Dominica, Sept. 20, 1976, on 4 stamps shows and identifies various events in the Viking mission: 1/2c stamp of the Viking spacecraft atop the launch rocket; 2c stamp shows Viking spacecraft atop the rocket about to be launched; 3c stamp shows the Viking orbiter spacecraft and the landing capsule over Mars; and the 45c stamp shows the Viking capsule with open parachute about to land on Mars. With black and brown first day of issue printed cachet of Viking lander about to land on Mars and text that reads in part: "Dominica, Commemorating Viking I and II Missions to Mars, July 20, 1976, September 3, 1976. DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: CONQUEST OF SPACE FIRST DAY COVER (#598-601), with a pictorial rocket hand cancel Santo Dominigo, July 28, 1964, on a 4 stamps: two showing a missile in flight, one showing a missile launch and one showing a Mercury space capsule orbiting the earth. NO cachet on this cover. (NOTE: the U.S. had a missile tracking station in the Dominican Republic in 1956-1957).

There is also a seperate (very light) black rubber stamp cachet in spanish & english reading "Ecuador, first day of Issue". With a black printed cachet of a rocket on a launch pad by a launch tower. (NOTE: there is some wrinkling of the envelope near the top of the postage stamp). IMAGE
