ASTRONAUT JAY APT. AUTOGRAPH ON A SPACE SHUTTLE UNOFFICIAL FIRST DAY COVER, Autographed: "Jay Apt", cover has four bar hand cancel of Houston TX on a 18 cent Space Shuttle stamp (#1914), & a blue SCCS Printed Cachet showing a diagram of the planets around the sun, with printed text: "U.S. Achievements in Space. Houston - Unofficial First Day City", & 7 additional lines of text explaining how the unoffical first day covers were produced & that "Houston is the site of the Control Center for Space Shuttle flights and all of the other manned U.S. space missions." (NASA Astronaut, Dr. Apt joined the Earth and Space Sciences Division of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in 1980 doing planetary research, studying Venus, Mars, and the outer solar system, a perfect tie in with the cachet on this cover and Dr. Apt flew on four space shuttle flights: STS-37, STS-47, STS-59 and STS-79, a perfect tie in with the Shuttle stamp issued). ASTRONAUT JON McBRIDE. AUTOGRAPH ON A SPACE SHUTTLE "ENTERPRISE" EVENT COVER, Autographed and inscribed: "Good Luck!! Jon McBride, LCDR USN, Shuttle Pilot", cover has a machine cancel of Marshall Space Flight Ctr AL on a 13 cent Eagle/Shield stamp, and a black rubber stamp cachet (unidentified, however I belive this is an official MSFC cachet for this event) showing a space shuttle being carried piggyback atop a Boeing 747 aircraft over buildings on the ground, and text: "Orbiter Enterprise arrives at Marshall Space Flight Center." (An early autograph of NASA Astronaut Jon McBride, which he signed in 1978 soon after he was selected as an astronaut candidate in January 1978. He became an astronaut in August 1979. McBride was capsule communicator (CAPCOM) for STS-5, STS-6, and STS-7 and flew as pilot on STS 41-G, on October 5, 1984). IMAGE

ASTRONAUT JON McBRIDE. AUTOGRAPH ON AN AIR POSTAL STATIONERY FIRST DAY COVER, Autographed & inscribed: "Best Wishes!! Jon McBride, LCDR USN, AIM-9L Test Director, Shuttle Pilot", cover has a machine first day slogan cancel of New York NY on a 7 cent Jet Airliner postal stationery envelope. With a black Artcraft Printed Cachet showing a a jet airliner over skyscrapers of New York City and appropriate text for this first day of issue. (An early autograph of NASA Astronaut Jon McBride, which he signed in 1978 soon after he was selected as an astronaut candidate in January 1978. He became an astronaut in August 1979. McBride flew as pilot on STS 41-G, on October 5, 1984. Before becoming an astronaut he was a naval aviator flying the F-4 "Phantom II" aircraft. He was also a fighter pilot and flew 64 combat missions. He was also the AIM-9L Sidwinder missile project officer, which he refers to this project in his autographed inscription). IMAGE

ASTRONAUT ALAN B. SHEPARD, JR. AUTOGRAPH ON APOLLO 15 FIRST DAY COVER, autograph of Shepard on a cover with a vertical pair of "United States in Space.....A decade of Achievement" se-tenant stamps (#1434-1435, these stamps were issued during the Apollo 15 flight). Cover has a first day of issue machine cancel of Houston TX Aug 2, 1971 (cancel falls on dark portions of the stamp and is mostly not readable). Cover has a colored David C. Cachets printed cachet showing the Saturn rocket launch with text: "Unted States Accomplishments in Space, 1971, First Day of Issue". (Shepard signed this cover on Jan. 13, 1995, at a book signing in Texas for the book "Moon Shot, The Inside Story of America's Race to the Moon", which he co-authored with astronaut Deke Slayton. (Shepard is now deceased). IMAGE
