Apollo 13 Flight Covers with HERITAGE CRAFTS printed cachets

Notes HERITAGE CRAFTS cachets were produced by Dave Ouelette who worked at the Kennedy Space Center, Florida for one of the Space Contractors. HERITAGE CRAFTS cachets exist for all the the manned Apollo flights, Apollo 7 through Apollo 17. Two different designs exist for the Apollo 13 HERITAGE CRAFTS cachets: One design shows a drawing of two astronauts working on the Moon,printed in blue and gold. Note: The name "HERITAGE CRAFTS" is identified in this design. The other design shows a drawing of the Apollo 13 emblem, printed in blue, black and gold. Note: There is no "HERITAGE CRAFTS" identification in this design (The reason for this is quite another story and will be revealed at another time when the story of HERITAGE CRAFTS CACHETS is written). Both designs have a common basic cachet titled "John F. Kennedy Space Center/Apollo 13 - Ex Luna, Scientia" and shows the heads of the 3 Apollo 13 astronauts in their space suit and identified by name. Astronaut Thomas Mattingly is shown in all of the Apollo 13 HERITAGE CRAFTS cachets (since cachets were printed before the flight), however, Mattingly was replaced by Astronaut John Swigert one day before the launch due to a medical problem. Thus the Apollo 13 HERITAGE CRAFTS cachets were later modified for this change by either adding a small rubber stamp cachet or a small printed cachet showing a drawing of the head of Astronaut John Swigert in his space suit with his name beneath it and titled: "Named Command Module Pilot April 10". On some cachets an added word cachet was also applied noting the abortion of the lunar landing: "April 13, 10:21 EST, We have a problem up here!, MISSION ABORTED" All covers are number 6 size and unaddressed unless otherwise noted. All are rag content envelopes. All autographs on covers are genuine unless otherwise noted. An AUTOPEN autograph is one that is made by a machine using a template, rather than the individual signing in person, and a cover with an autopen autograph is accordingly priced lower than a genuine autograph.
