Apollo 11 with DOW-UNICOVER printed cachets

APOLLO 11 was the first manned flight to the Moon where Astronauts actually touched down and set foot on the Moon. In 1961, while the U.S. manned space program was still in its infancy, President John F. Kennedy set the space program on a new course by proclaiming: "I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to Earth". This was accomplished on the Apollo 11 flight. Here are the highlights of the flight: 07/16/1969 Launch date 07/20/1969 Moonlanding date 07/24/1969 Splashdown date Unserviced DOW-UNICOVER cachets covers were distributed by Dave Oulette who worked at the Kennedy Space Center Florida during the time of Apollo 11 flight. The DOW-UNICOVER cachets are very similar to the HERITAGE CRAFTS cachets produced by Dave Oulette that exist for other Apollo flights. Another space cover dealer calls these cachets "Contractor Covers" because of the name "DOW", however the cover company called FLEETWOOD has been advertising these are their cachets as the name "UNICOVER" is associated with the FLEETWOOD company and makes no reference that these are Contractor Covers. So you be the judge! NEW INFORMATION RECEIVED ABOUT THIS CACHET ARTIST AND THE NAME OF DOW and so these are NOT contractor covers: The artist who drew this cachet for Fleetwood was Donald E. Wiles, of York PA. Mr. Wiles negotiated the deal with FLEETWOOD and one of his requirements was to be able to sign his work as "DOW-UNICOVER". Mr. Wiles, a Bendix employee at the Kennedy Space Center, also did the artwork for the Bendix LSD cacheted covers as well as for the HERITAGE CRAFTS cachets. (This information was recently provided by a reliable source who worked with Mr. Wiles in 1969 and has a collection of art work by Mr. Wiles.) These DOW-UNICOVER cacheted covers are very attractively printed in blue and show the Apollo 11 astronauts heads in their space suit with their names down the left side of the envelope. The main part of the cachet is a drawing showing the first step on the Moon and is titled "APOLLO XI THE FIRST STEP". There is additional wording to the cachet: PROJECT APOLLO, FIRST MANNED LUNAR LANDING. The DOW-UNICOVER name is at the bottom of the cachet. All DOW-UNICOVER cacheted covers come with an illustrated/text filler card that is called a "Mission Profile Card" drawn by artist Don Wiles, that shows an Astronaut setting up an experiment on the Moon and gives information about the Apollo 11 Astronauts and has the famous Moon quote made by President John F. Kennedy. Some of the covers on this list are SPECIAL in that they have foreign space stamps or cinderella/local post items affixed and ARE cancelled by the US postmark. This is allowable under USPS regulations, so long as there is US postage on the cover that pays the first class rate.
