Comments: I just came across an album on eBay filled
with 130 of the coolest, most awesome
first day covers I've ever seen. Titan III
missile launches, SAM missile tests, just
fascinating material. I decided to look up
and see how many groups collect these
and I think I find the right spot.
I'm interested in two things: who the heck
had time to type all the info on these
cacheted FDCs and:
where can I find more of them?

Comments: My father, Everett James, worked Eleuthera AAFB in the mid to late 50s and loved the area very much---probably much more so as he met my mother in the Bahamas. He also worked Patrick AFB and KSC until his retirement. He was one great father and a sharp fellow! I know he enjoyed the old timers reunions when he could get to them! This is to let you know that we lost him August 2013 and his lovely wife Peggy followed him the very end of October. As a family (two daughters and several grandchilden) we are taking them both back to Eleuthera, to the beaches, to where they spent their happiest honeymoon years together. I'm looking for information of where they may have spent most of their time. All of their many letters are AAFB addressed and I know they lived at a place owned by D. Mitchell (A New Zealander who had polio.) We have descriptions of the Queens Hwy, Gouverners Harbor, where they shopped for groceries, etc, and we are hoping to gain more information. If anyone has any info on Everett James and particularly after he married and my mother lived there, it would be so helpful. Thank you so much! K4SYU's little girl!

Comments: My husband was stationed at the NavFac Grand Turk Base
from 1973 - 1974. We loved it there. My sons and I always
went to Governors beach. Officers wifes where so nice there.
I would like to go back and visit again. But everything looks
all built up. When I was there they started to build hotels but
never finished them .we ate at the panam base a lot . I really
enjoyed it there. If any of you know where I can get the
Navfac grand turk base patch from I would appreciated. The
at the base where always enjoyable. Also enjoyed the walks.
Do planes still fly into the Panam airfield?

Comments: Joe, I'm trying to find the book mentioned in your C76 listings, Moonlanding--Historical Account and Cachet Listing of #C76 (Second Edition) by Harry L. Anderson and Monte Eiserman. What was the printing date (year) of this second edition? I have found a copy listed as 1979 but without any notation of which edition. Thanks for any help you can provide.
=====================================
Hello JN:

The original edition was published in 1975, which I have, (It does not mention what edition it is), it had a total of 205 cachets. in 1979 one could order an update to the 1975 catalog, (which I ordered) that had a combined total of 372 cachets,

Or one could order the catalog of 1979 that combined the 1975 edition with the updates.
So the 1979 catalog is the 2nd edition, altho it might not say so.

I have read last year that there was going to be a new edition with more previously unlisted cachets included, but have seen nothing since. I hope this answers your question.

Joe

Comments: Great website. I was on Ascension in the 70s and 80s when I was a child as my Dad was a BBC engineer. I loved trips to the NASA site and saw live feed there from some of the Apollo missions. My sister painted the Volcano picture on the top of the Volcano club at the US airforce base in '76. I think the managers name was Ernie Ridyough. My Dad was a keen stamp collector and I remember he bought first day covers and sheets of Apollo-Soyuz stamps from Georgetown post office with Soyuz spelled incorrectly. He saw the error and bought a lot of sheets then told the manager who stopped the issue to correct it. I think Dad sold the stamps to a UK dealer but I always look out for them on the internet as they must be worth more than their original price.
